Making a Burrito like a Chipotle Joint at Home

A Chipotle-style beef burrito can be easily made with smaller amounts of ingredients at home. To help you prepare this popular dish, we’ll provide detailed, easy-to-follow instructions with pictures.

Ingredients

For the Burrito:

  • 1 large flour tortilla (10-12 inches)
  • 1 cup of cilantro-lime rice (recipe follows)
  • 1/2 cup mature black or pinto beans
  • 4-6 ounces meat (of any kind: chicken, steak, barbacoa, sofritas, or veggies)
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey jack)
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup guacamole (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • Besides tomatoes – One or many (lettuce, corn, jalapeños, etc.)

For the Cilantro-Lime Rice:

  • 1 cup uncooked rice (white or brown)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Lime (juiced)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt to taste

Stepwise Instructions

1. Cilantro-lime rice preparation: 

When cooked, use a fork to fluff the rice. Mix in lime juice, cilantro, and salt to the desired level. Reserve for later use

AT the last stage, rinse the rice under running cold water using it on the sink till the water is no longer cloudy.

Rinse the rice and pour it in a pot with the water. Bring that to a boil.

Now let’s lower the temperature and cover it to let it simmer on low heat for around 18-20 minutes once the water boils (or 30-40 minutes in case you are using brown rice) and until all the water has been soaked up.

2.Cook your protein

If using chicken, steak or barbacoa season with your favorite spices(Like cumin, chilly powder, garlic powder) and cook in skillet or on the grilled until fully cooked.

For sofritas, crumble tofu and saupe with taco seasoning until heated through. Allow the protein rest for a few minutes, then slice or shrred as needed.

3.Gather your gredients

Layout your all ingredients in a assembly line: Tortilla, rice, beans, proteins, cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, any additional topping.

4.Warm the tortilla

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. place the tortilla in skillet for about 10-15 seconds on each side, to make it more pliable.

5.Assembling the burrito

Place the warmed tortilla on a large plate. in the center of the tortilla, layer the cilantro lime rise, beans, protein, cheese and any other topping you may like. Be careful not to over-fill, as this will make wrapping difficult.

5.Wrap the burrito

Fold the sides of the tortilla inward over the filling. start from the bottom(the side closest to you) and roll the tortilla tightly around the filling. tuck these sides as you roll to secure the filling inside.

7.toast the burrito(optionally)

For an extra crispy exterior, place the wrapped burrito seam side down in the skill over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each until Golden-Brown.

8.Serve and enjoy your burrito

Slice the Burrito in half for easier handling, and serve with an extra salsa, guacamole, or sour cream on the side.


Tips to make perfect burrito

  • Use a large Tortilla to give yourself enough room to fold and roll.
  • Don’t over-fill the Burrito: Aim for about 1-1.5 cups of filling total.
  • Keep the filling centered and evenly distributed.
